    Description

Up for auction is a very rare 1940 Wurlitzer Art Deco Grand Piano.  This is such a rare case I have only found photos of 3 of this type ever!  Very streamlined - it looks like no other piano.  It has a hardtop made of mahogany and some sort of fibre board covered in leatherette that creates the curved side. The top is also covered partially in leatherette.  It has mahogany louvers in the top that the sound comes out through and does not lift from one side like a normal piano.  The top only comes off for tuning with the removal of a few screws.  It has another unusual Deco feature which is a roll top fall board.
This piano has sold for over K in completely restored condition.
We bought it to restore for our shop 15 years ago and never got around to it.  Sadly the top case was damaged and will need a good cabinet maker to restore it.  See photos.  The piano itself has a great "steam punk" look without the top, I had the action gone through at a cost of 0 and I was going to keep working on it and use it that way, but another piano has come into my life and I must move this on.  The strings and pins have rust on them, it has been tuned but will need some work to be a good instrument.  One hammer broke when I was re-installing the action, but any piano technician can fix that.  I have the pedal lyre but the pedals and rods were lost before I bought it.  Various screws are missing, but they are easily replaced. The leatherette on the case is damaged in several places.  The sound board, although dirty and stained, is in good condition - no cracks.
Other than the main photo, all additional photos of the piano were taken while it is stored on it's side - the keys lay fairly flat as you will see in the main photo, except for the one key that has the broken hammer.
This would be a great project for someone to learn on because at the end of the project you have a very rare piano instead of one of a million grand pianos that are out there needing restoration.
Please reach out with questions or if you need additional photos.   The photos at the end show others that I have found of the same model, restored or in good original condition.
