    Toy Dinner Set Platter
    FLOW BLUE
    WILLOW
Edge & Malkin Staffordshire England c1870
    This fantastic miniature
    platter or meat plate
    , circa 1870
    was o
riginally part of a complete miniature child's dinner service.
The diminutive serving piece is octagonal is shape,
    measuring 5 inches
    long,
    t
    ransfer printed in a
deep cobalt blue or flow blue on an ironstone blank
    , finished with
    clear
    glaze.
Decorated in a variation on the Willow pattern, an uncommon horizontal interpretation of the original Chinese blue willow wares
    applied to this tiny black
    . The ove
    r
all design has a pair of love birds,
willow tree, bubble trees and a
Japanese pagoda, encircled with a classic Chinoserie border
    .
    A
    very
    nice
    example of a
    classic
    pattern
    in miniature
    .
    The
    plate
    is
    marked with the backstamp of
Edge Malkin & Co., a 19th century pottery manufactory in the Staffordshire region of England. The pattern is discussed in Doris Lechler's
    English Toy China
    as well as Lorraine Punchard's
Playtime Pottery and Porcelain from the UK and US
    .
    The plat
    ter is
in fair condition with an interior firing crack (shown in the detail photo) original to the making and no other chips cracks or repairs.
    Light overall crazing, s
tilt marks on the front. Displays beautifully. Children's transferware of this quality is quite scarce and highly sought after.  We invite you to browse the rest of our auction listings this week to mix and match. We are always happy to combine postage on multiple purchases. Please
