Handcrafted in New York in 1956, this Steinway Model S (5’-1”) has undergone a complete and total rebuilding by Atlantic Music Center in 2022.  The case, lid, and all cabinetry components have been impeccably refinished in a traditional satin ebony finish.  All brass and metalwork were either replaced or polished to like-new condition, and the cast iron plate was removed, refinished, and re-installed after refinishing the soundboard and bridges.  We replaced the pinblock and installed new tuning pins.  The strings were replaced with brand new Mapes piano strings and we installed brand-new high-quality Renner Bluepoint hammers, shanks, and flanges.  All felts including damper felts were replaced, the key bushings were replaced, and all worn action parts replaced.  The action has been regulated, hammers voiced, and the piano has been tuned several times to ensure long term stability.
This is one incredible sounding Steinway Model S.  It has a deeper, richer sounding bass than most that we run across, and the combination of the new Mapes strings and Renner Bluepoint hammers really bring out the resonance and beautiful overtones that this small baby grand can produce.  This Steinway is a piano that will enhance any room or setting in the finest of homes and offers incredible value for the price – less than half the cost of a brand-new Steinway Model S

History of the Model S
Steinway and Sons introduced the Model S in 1935. The Model S was launched with much fanfare by the company and it is still in production to this day. The Model S design is based upon and scaled-down from the larger 5’7″ Model M. The smaller size and lower cost of this piano are considered by many to be the Steinway Company’s savior during the financial hardships of the Great Depression. Cosmetically, the Model S looks very similar to the Model M with the main interior difference being that the cast iron plate has five plate cooling holes instead of the six on the M.
