Rare vintage antique GRAYHILL "Series 1" Rotary Selector Switch Pat. No. 24367508 Pole 11 Throw
Based on historic pictures, this unique rotary switch appears to include original handle. This was the original produced by Grayhill. The Series 1 rotary switch was actually designed in the 1940s for submarines and is said to be Grayhill’s first manufactured product. Having worked at Grayhill for many years, this switch (purchased many years ago) is only 1 of 2 switches I’ve ever sceen.
This particular unit appears to be in good shape. The unit has 8 decks and 11 rotary positions. I checked many of the positions (not all 88 contacts) and they all worked as they should. Although the knob works great turn the switch, I did notice a crack underneath knob. If I was going to restore this beauty, I would probably remove the knob and use an epoxy to repair the crack. Again, this crack doesn’t affect the functionality of the switch itself OR the overall beauty of this item.
Item is heavy duty
10-1/4” long
4” in diameter (including terminals)
For those not familiar with these switches, I’ve put a wire loop on the common terminal set and marked on the knob the “active” terminal set.
rotary switch.
