This childs size plate was originally part of an early childs tea set. The plate measures about 4-
3/4 inches
in diameter. Transfer printed in a rich
sultry black
with
clear
glaze.
It is decorated with the image of a pair of peacocks. The peafowl is standing on a plinth and the cock is opening his tail to woo her. The r

. The pattern is illustrated and discussed in Lorraine Punchard’s book “Playtime Pottery & Porcelain from the UK & UK”. (pg 31)
The plate is in great condition, with
an underglaze rim nick at 12 o’clock, original to the making, and
no chips cracks chips or repairs. Typical early 19th century manufacturing imperfections. A splendid pocket size work of art befitting the finest dollhouse or child’s tea party.
