    Description

This is a fully restored 1906 Bosendorfer Grand Piano (
    Rare
) Model 200 w/Viennese Action and includes an adjustable concert bench.  Newly tuned on May 19, 2022, with two strings replaced.  It is very rare to find a Bosendorfer 200 of this age in a fully functional working condition.
The piano tuner considers the piano to be a very rare piano and in overall good condition.  The man who tuned this piano, tunes all of the pianos in the University of Nebraska music departments, as well as the pianos used for concerts at the Lied Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
It is polished ebony in color with brass lettering and pedals.  No cracking anywhere on the composite maple interior wood construction, which is in very good condition.  The keys are the original ivory.  The pin block is solid and holding true.  The sound board is shimmed but does not affect the sound.  The action is somewhat hard, due to lack of use, but should soften with more playing time.
Bosendorfer pianos date back to 1828 and the company is still considered one of the five best piano makers in the world.  This 2-pedal, 85 key piano was made by the Bosendorfer family in Austria before the company was sold in 1909.  The Bosendorfer 200 grand piano is referred to as 'a big piano in a small body' and is equally suitable for either concert or home use.  It is 79 inches in length, 55 inches in width, and stands 36 inches high.  The weight is approximately 778 pounds.  The 2-pedal, 85 key features make the piano even more rare, as it puts the piano into the realm of a fortepiano sound, which some artists prefer to play today.  It has a range just short of seven octaves.
The documented history of this particular piano is as follows:
Serial #18185.  This number confirms the year made as 1906.  Per correspondence with the Bosendorfer company in April of 1988, this piano was delivered to Bucharest, Romania, in 1907.  The next thing we know for sure about the piano is that it was used as a concert piano at Hastings College in Nebraska.  Then, sometime before 1988, the piano came under the ownership of the Dale Matousek Music Shop in St. Paul, Nebraska, where it was restored.  In a correspondence letter from the Bosendorfer company dated December 16, 1988, a representative of the Bosendorfer company commended Dale Matousek for the good restoration job on it and added that it "looked very nice."
The Bosendorfer Co. and the piano tuner confirmed in correspondence that this grand piano is a straight strung Viennese action instrument, intended for light hammers.  This action is considered to be a light action, because the keys fall easily under the fingers, producing a softer tone with less sustain.  Classical composers Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven were known to use light action pianos to compose their music.
This is a one owner grand piano, since it's purchase from the Dale Matousek Music Shop about 25 years ago.  There are some rub marks from shipping straps on the front panel and some minor scratches.  That is virtually the extent of exterior flaws.  It is in overall remarkable condition for its age.
The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) today for a brand new Bosendorfer 200 grand piano in ebony color is 4,999.
Shipping cost is not included in the asking price for this piano. The shipping and/or pickup arrangements need to be made by the purchaser.
